Picking the right Tattoo Design and Tattoo Artist.

Tuesday, December 8th, 2009

In no way am I a professional at this so take it as my opinion but I feel most will agree. Picking a tattoo should not be something taken lightly. It is after all going to be on your body for life. At least that is the idea behind getting a tattoo. A lot of people go into a tattoo parlor and look at getting a tattoo without any thought behind the process. This often is done by young, inexperienced people who have no idea what comes with getting a tattoo. I mean after all don’t you want a custom tattoo that is just for you, not one from a book that anyone could have?

This brings me to this point; too many people will go into a tattoo parlor look at the boards, find something that looks cute or trendy and then make a bad decision. With no thought or meaning behind the tattoo. This is usually so they can go show it off to their friends or upset a parent. This leads to regret later in life and most of the time, tattoo removal. I choose my first tattoo this way but luckily mine did have a little meaning to it. It was pretty much a nick name I had in the Army that was given to me because I was small but scrappy. It was a tattoo of the small Henry Hawk on my right shoulder. That was the only thought, and if I could do it all over again I would have had a tattoo design with a little more thought. Removal of a tattoo is not at all as expensive or invasive as it use to be but it still is money spent, you would have been better off not getting one at all. At basic training there was a kid who wanted to show off his dragon tattoo. He was sadly disappointed when we all looked at it and laughed. We called it the crayola dragon because it had no shading or lines and looked like his younger brother drew it on him with a crayola crayon.

This brings me to my second tattoo; this one had more meaning to it and was a little more thought out. The fist thing to do was find meaning behind why I was getting one. I ask myself, what is significant in my life? What will be constant no matter what happens? The answer was my daughter. The second thing was to go out and find an artist. Not just anyone will do. My friend who showed me some of his work in his tattoo gallery drew me a few tattoo ideas. You might have to provide information on what you want but you shouldn’t have to always show up with a photo or tattoo designs. That is the difference between a tattoo artist and a person who just gives tattoos. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes you will have to provide a photo or design but it shouldn’t be a constant. That brings me to the last part of the puzzle. Look at the work of the artist, ask questions. Most good artist has the answers and photos available for you. If you really want to know how it’s done watch LA Ink. Most of the people who are coming in already have tattoos and are looking to get more. The person usually comes in with an Idea, Concept, photo, or drawing and the tattoo artist will develop the best tattoo from there.

Remember getting a tattoo should be something you’re going to want for a long time. It should reflect you, some one you know or a very special event in your life. If no one else likes it but you then that is really all that matters. Last but not least there are several different Laser Removal surgeries’ you can have done. This ranges from Laser, Exision and Dermabrasion because we all make some mistakes.

If you have any thing you would like to see covered in my blog, or know of any Artist you would like featured send me some information and I will see about getting something written up for you.
